WDP Workshop and Class Equipment & Knowledge Info

 

Photo Equipment and Knowledge

EXPLORATION WORKSHOPS require the following Photographic equipment:

  • Digital Camera – Preferably one that has Program, Aperture, Shutter, and Manual shooting modes and MUST be tripod attachable
  • Polarizing Filter
  • Tripod
  • Digital memory cards with reader (recommended to have at least 8GB if your camera will accept it)
  • Power adapters and cables for digital camera
  • Manuals for camera, flash, etc.
  • Batteries and charger for rechargeable batteries
  • NOTE: If you own and would like to use Film Cameras during your workshop, you will need to take the film home for processing. This will inhibit your full participation in the workshop process.

EXCURSION and EXPLORATION WORKSHOPS require a working knowledge of your camera’s SHOOTING MODES so that you are  capable and comfortable in understanding the HOW and WHY of the following:

  • Digital Single Lens Reflex camera (DSLR) and lens(es)
  • Polarizing Filter
  • Neutral Density Filters
  • Tripod
  • Digital memory cards with reader (recommended to have at least 8GB if your camera will accept it)
  • Power adapters and cables for digital camera
  • Manuals for camera, flash, etc.
  • Batteries and charger for rechargeable batteries
  • NOTE: If you own and would like to use Film Cameras during your workshop, you will need to take the film home for processing. This will inhibit your full participation in the workshop process.
  •  Evaluate your in-camera light meter
  • Use Aperture Priority
  • Use Shutter Priority
  • Use Manual Mode
  • Adjust the aperture and shutter speed to control the light your camera captures
  • Understand Exposure Relations – aperture becomes larger, shutter speed becomes faster

 

Computer Equipment

EXCURSION and EXPLORATION WORKSHOPS require this COMPUTER EQUIPMENT:

  • Mac or PC laptop computer with up-to-date operating system (OSX, Win7 or later)
    iPads and similar tablet computers are not recommended as an alternative to laptops due to their limited functionality for photo management and processing

  • Minimum 1.33 GHz processor (processing speed should meet or exceed specifications of your image editing software)
  • 2 GB or more of RAM
  • Minimum of 50GB of free internal hard drive space
  • Mouse and mouse pad (highly recommended, not required)
  • Power adapters, battery, and cables for laptop
  • External 250GB hard drive or other storage device, and/or blank CDs/DVDs for backing-up images
  • Current version of image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop with Bridge, Lightroom, Aperture or Photo Mechanic. Workshops’ staff is most familiar with Photoshop/Lightroom.

Computer Knowledge:

You are expected to have a working knowledge of:

  • Downloading images from your camera to the laptop
  • Organizing files
  • Basic use of your image editing software
  • Selecting images for critique
